Internet Use Policy
To develop the Gatesville Public Library as a cultural and informational center for the community, in order to promote and provide access to a wide range of library services and materials in response to the needs of the citizens of Gatesville.
To fulfill its mission, the Gatesville Public Library provides access to a broad range of informational sources, including those available through the Internet.
The Internet enables the Library to provide information far beyond the limitations of its own collection.
The Library respects patron privacy and does not monitor individual Internet activity except as necessary for technical support, safety, or when required by law.
Users should be aware that Internet activity may be visible to others in a public setting and may be subject to monitoring by external third parties beyond the Library’s control.
The Library strives to provide accessible technology resources and will make reasonable accommodations when possible to ensure equitable access to Internet and computer services.
The Library Director has the authority to establish procedures governing the use of computers and Internet resources.
The Library reserves the right to terminate an Internet session in accordance with Library policies.

- Unauthorized access to files, passwords, or computer systems
- Harassment, libel, or slander
- Destroying or damaging equipment or software
- Violating copyright laws
- Operating a business from library computers
- Disrupting system operations
- Verbal warning
- Termination of Internet session
- Suspension of computer privileges
- Suspension of library privileges
- Referral to law enforcement when applicable
The length and conditions of any suspension shall be determined by the Library Director.
