Fire Safety & Prevention

Fire prevention starts at home. Review these important safety reminders to help protect your family, home, and property.

Home Fire Safety Tips

  • Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas.
  • Test smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries as needed.
  • Keep exits clear and create a home fire escape plan.
  • Practice your fire escape plan with all household members.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.

Kitchen Safety

  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Keep flammable items away from the stove.
  • Turn pot handles inward while cooking.
  • Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires.

Carbon Monoxide Safety

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be extremely dangerous. Protect your household by installing carbon monoxide detectors near sleeping areas and checking them regularly.

  • Never run vehicles in enclosed garages.
  • Have heating systems and appliances inspected regularly.
  • Do not use grills or generators indoors.
  • If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, move outside immediately and call for help.
