Brad Hunt

Bradford Hunt is a Master Peace Officer and 29-year veteran of Law Enforcement. He was hired in February 2023 as the Chief of Police in Gatesville, Texas. In May 2024, the City Council appointed him as the Interim City Manager of Gatesville. Before coming to Gatesville, Brad was the Chief of Police in Chief of Police in Keene, Texas for three years, after retiring as a Lieutenant with 25 years of experience at the Temple, Texas Police Department.

Brad has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology, from Stephen F. Austin State University and instructed at the Basic Police Academy at Central Texas College and Temple College from 1999 to 2012. He graduated from Session 269 of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, in 2017.

While at the Temple Police Department, Brad entered a leadership position in 2003 and served in many roles throughout his tenure. He served as the Division Commander over Special Operations, which includes Community Police, Traffic, School Resource, Violent Crimes, SWAT, Hostage Negotiators and Honor Guard. He was the Program Manager for the Department’s successful initial endeavor to attain Recognized status in the Texas Police Chief’s Association (TPCA) Best Practices Program in 2019. He supervised Administration, Investigations, K-9, Patrol, and Animal Services, to name a few. He also was the first full-time Public Information Officer for Temple PD.

With the Keene Police Department, Chief Hunt took positive steps to improve officer safety, the department’s professional image, efficiency, morale, team building, and accountability for the budget.

As the Chief of Police in Gatesville, Chief Hunt continually seeks opportunities to teach others and interact with members of the community, with the goal of improving and sustaining positive relations with community stakeholders, citizens, leaders, the media, and regional law enforcement members. With the goal of enhancing the department’s service to the community, he is working toward a complete re-write of the policy manual (overdue since 2015), as well as taking all possible steps to enhance the recruitment and retention of quality personnel. He is also making gradual changes to the patrol schedule, Code Enforcement, Dispatch, and Animal Control functions.

As the Interim City Manager, Mr. Hunt will work with the council, city leadership staff, and the community to ensure all city services meet the needs of the citizens, businesses, and visitors of Gatesville. He will build a team and system that will form a solid foundation for city government, on which the new full-time City Manager can build upon arrival.

Brad is blessed with five children, ages 5 to 26, as well as a 3-year-old grandson. He spends his free time coaching youth sports, playing golf, working on cars, and relaxing with his family.
