Chisholm Trail/Longhorn
Coryell County was a part of the Chisholm trail until the suspension bridge over the Brazos River was built in Waco. Herds actually moved up Hard Bargain mountain south of town on their way to the Kansas cattle markets. Aggies will understand the 13-0 brand on the longhorn. For those of you who don’t know, on November 19, 1915, Texas A&M defeated Texas 13-0 at Kyle Field. In February 1917, a group of Aggies stole the Texas mascot and branded the 1915 score into the longhorn’s hide. In an effort to cover it up, UT students allegedly modified the hide to look like “BEVO,” thus giving the mascot its name.
