Crime Victim's Compensation Fund
A person may be eligible for victim's assistance if the crime posed a substantial threat of bodily injury or death, and would be punishable by fine, imprisonment, or death.
This includes:
- Sex offenses
- Kidnapping
- Aggravated robbery
- Assaultive offenses
- Arson
- Homicide
- Failure to Stop and Render Aid
- D.W.I.
- Manslaughter
- Criminally Negligent Homicide
- Aggravated Assault
- Intoxication Manslaughter
- Intoxication Assault
- Other violent crimes in which the victim suffers physical or emotional harm or death
A person is NOT eligible if they knowingly or willingly participated in the crime; is the offender or the accomplice of the offender; was incarcerated or on probation for a felony involving criminally injurious conduct at the time of the crime; or knowingly or intentionally submits false information to the attorney general.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, victims of a violent crime have the right to receive protection from retaliation for their cooperation in the prosecution of the crime; advance notice of relevant court proceedings; receive information from a peace officer about the assailant's right to bail; payment for medical exams for victims of sexual assault; and payment for counseling needed due to the attack.
